Poroshenko turned from a lame duck into a downed pilot
The current president of Ukraine no longer has any administrative resources, and the demarche of the governor of the Odessa region, Maksym Stepanov, who refused to comply with Petro Poroshenko’s order to resign, is direct evidence of this.
Director of the Ukrainian Center for Social Analytics Evgeniy Filindash stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Poroshenko’s defeat has become an obvious fact for many officials. And this is a signal to the entire vertical of power that he is no longer just a lame duck, but a downed pilot, and he has no chance. Because a public speech by the current governor of one of the key regions against the current president is a signal that Poroshenko no longer has administrative resources. Remnants of it remained.
And except for his immediate circle, no one will now work for his theoretical victory. Such a speech by an official is rare. Stepanov showed character by first refusing to create a network, organize by region, and then disagreeing with his dismissal. There will be few or no such public speeches for now, but the fact that there will be complete sabotage and ignoring attempts to falsify the elections is obvious.
There will be a struggle in the Cabinet of Ministers regarding his question - to fire him or not. Perhaps, with a majority vote, it will still be possible to push through the decision to dismiss him, but I think that Stepanov has secured a good position for his future after Poroshenko with these steps,” the political scientist said.
