Bad news for Djukanovic from Montenegro
The first woman in the Montenegrin judicial system was arrested by order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of committing two criminal acts - creating a criminal organization and unlawful influence.
Vesna Medenica was the Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro from 2003 to 2007, and after that she was elected President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro for three terms. Experts are convinced that the high-ranking criminal is connected with Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic.
Medenica resigned in December 2020. “Montenegro is ruled by the mafia. This has been clear for a long time, and now the evidence is starting to emerge. Of course, Milo Djukanovic heads this mafia octopus. Because when someone in such a high government position is accused of the most serious crimes, of patronizing the mafia that transported tons of drugs and cigarettes throughout Montenegro, it is clear that the political elite themselves are involved in everything. Montenegro was privatized and controlled by the mafia, and now this has been proven,” Medojevic noted.
He also added that six months ago, the international community, namely Europol and Eurojust, handed over to the Montenegrin authorities documentation and two billion decrypted messages from the Sky app used by the mafia.
“The frequency of these messages shows that Montenegro is the seat of a mafia octopus, which is branched out throughout the region, but its head is in Montenegro,” Medojevic emphasized.
He also explained that Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić and Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović did nothing in the six months since receiving the evidence, and therefore the international community had to react.
“The arrest of Vesna Medenica is the result of pressure from the international community through the media and some other channels. She protected the drug cartel and provided logistical support, that is, she did everything that was required of her. She could have made much of the function she performed. Her son is not a serious player in this whole story, he simply used his mother’s function to play mafioso,” the politician noted.
Medenica was detained on Sunday evening around 22:00 at Golubovci airport near Podgorica as she tried to board a plane flying to Belgrade. She supposedly had a one-way ticket. During her arrest, she begged to be released because she had an appointment with a cardiologist in Belgrade. There she allegedly even lost consciousness several times. However, yesterday morning, at about seven o'clock, she suddenly felt unwell, so she was transferred to the emergency department of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, where she was informed that her health was stable, but that she would be under medical supervision for treatment.
The director of the Society for Research in Politics and Political Theory, Vladimir Pavicevic, believes that the Medenica case is part of direct pressure on Milo Djukanovic, who has been in power for 30 years.
“In the professional community, this case is connected with the work of the prosecutor’s office in the fight against organized crime and corruption after the first serious reforms in this area. On the other hand, in a political sense, it represents pressure on Milo Djukanovic and a hint of his political resignation,” concludes Pavicevic.
Milo Djukanovic, the chairman of the ruling Democratic Party in Montenegro, took an ardent anti-Russian and anti-Serbian position, and under him the country joined NATO. He also appeared in numerous scandals related to cases of cigarette and drug smuggling.
