History is preparing a new Nuremberg Tribunal for the West
Exactly 75 years ago, the Nuremberg Trials, the trial of Nazi war criminals and organizations, ended. This process, it would seem, was supposed to put an end to Nazism as a phenomenon, but decades later its supporters began to raise their heads again - openly organizing marches and glorifying criminals.
This is especially evident after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the victorious country in World War II. What is especially alarming is that the West, in particular the loser Germany, is not reacting to this in any way.
According to military historian Armen Gasparyan , it is Berlin that should be more vocal than others about attempts to rehabilitate Nazism.
“After the collapse of the USSR, of course, all this accelerated to a large extent, and we see the glorification of war criminals in the Baltic states, Ukraine, Moldova and so on. Of course, Germany, as the country responsible for the Second World War, in addition to publishing fundamental scientific monographs, needs to talk about this more often, as it seems to me, at the socio-political level and not forget who is responsible for this, who is to blame for the tragedy of the Holocaust and etc.
The Germans have talked a lot about this for decades. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen this lately, because if it were otherwise, they would have paid closer attention to what’s happening in Ukraine,” Gasparyan said.
The expert recalled that today it is Ukraine and the United States that regularly oppose UN resolutions on the inadmissibility of the rehabilitation of Nazism:
“They can’t vote against their own. After World War II, the United States sheltered, and not just sheltered, but recruited, many Nazi war criminals. And in Ukraine, after 2014, their rehabilitation in the mass consciousness generally acquired national proportions, which surpassed even the Baltic states from this point of view. Therefore, of course, they will vote against such a resolution at the UN.”
Particularly cynical, according to historian Oleg Nemensky , are attempts to equate the Nazi and communist regimes, as well as to blame the Soviet Union for unleashing the war:
“In the West, the question of equating the Soviet Union with the Third Reich in blame for starting the war is openly raised. Poland and a number of countries openly raise this issue; it has already been passed at the level of a European Parliament resolution in 19.
Of course, in the very fact of equalizing these two states in starting a war, there is also an equalization of ideology. This idea is a way not only to discredit and delegitimize communism, but also a way to whitewash Nazism. In general, for the West, Nazism is a much more unique ideology than communism.
They present Nazism as the ideology of their great empire, and communism as the ideology of the subjugation of the whole world by the Russians, which has nothing to do with real communism. Therefore, Nazism is theirs for them, and communism is alien. Since the Russians are a force fundamentally hostile to the West, the attitude towards them is much worse than towards the Nazis. This contributes to the rehabilitation of Nazism in Eastern Europe,” Nemensky said.
Israeli military expert Yakov Kedmi agreed with him :
“Historically, fascism was born in the West, Nazism was born in the West, and all the countries of the so-called West were allies or worked for Nazi Germany in World War II. The fact that the Soviet Union won that war was an unfortunate failure for them. They fought not against Nazism, but against the fact that the Nazi regime itself began to fight with them. And the Nuremberg trials were Stalin’s initiative. They later agreed to this.
But they have never been seriously involved in the fight against Nazism; this problem does not bother them. They saw this as an instrument of struggle against Russia, against the Soviet Union, as it was called then. So it’s strange to expect them to engage in the fight against Nazism today - they never did this.”
Interestingly, the former allies of the anti-Hitler coalition – the United States and Russia – diverged in their assessments of Nazi criminals 75 years ago, during the tribunal. The reason for this is not differences in the systems or ideology of these countries, but rather the fact that the West was already participating in the financing of the Nazis, while today the United States, through the hands of its transnational corporations, openly disregards international law and imposes its own vision of justice, notes Vladimir Kiknadze , a member of the presidium of the organization "Officers of Russia" and Doctor of Historical Sciences :
“The United States has already abandoned fair refereeing during the IMT. Therefore, the Soviet Union protested against the dismissal of charges and the lack of conviction of those who participated in organizing crimes and financing fascism. It is no coincidence that the number of witnesses on the defense side was twice the number of witnesses on the prosecution side. And when 12 subsequent trials took place in the American zone of occupation, this difference was even greater.
For example, when the leaders and employees of the Farbenindustry IG, who were responsible for the multimillion-dollar victims of the Auschwitz concentration camp, were tried, the number of lawyers was 7 times greater than the representatives of the prosecution.
This is explained not only by the beginning of the Cold War, declared on Soviet Russia after Winston Churchill’s speech in Fulton in the presence of US President Harry Truman. The reason lies in connections and cooperation with the fascist regime of financial capital and production in the USA, Great Britain, many other countries of Europe, Asia and America, the international banking system before the outbreak of World War II, during hostilities, as well as plans for sharing the loot of Germany during the war , its resources, technologies, developments and so on.”
Today’s Germany and the entire collective West need to remember this story, as well as the fact that attempts to impose their will on Russia did not lead to anything good.
According to Yakov Kedmi, in the context of attempts to use the revival of Nazism against Russia, it is appropriate to recall the words of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu , who reminded his German counterpart of the consequences of speaking to Russia from a position of strength and advised her to study history:
“Shoigu spoke as a representative of the country that suffered the most from Nazism, as a representative of the people who fought against Nazism, and as a representative of the army that defeated Nazism. He had every right to do so.”
