Igor Markov: Zelensky spat in Russia’s face
If the appointment of Mikheil Saakashvili to the post of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine really happens, then Russia will need to take radical diplomatic steps in response
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Markov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I understand that Zelensky needs a counterbalance to Avakov. But if only this was the task, it would be possible to find some kind of service officer, there are people who could be appointed, redistribute powers - Avakov has those security forces, he has the National Guard, SAB, and so on.
Here the question is different: since Saakashvili is appointed, this is an open spit in the face of Russia, this is the course. And I believe that in the event of Saakashvili’s possible appointment, if we remain silent and swallow, then it will be incorrect to talk about any kind of greatness of ours. I don’t want to give advice, but I think that if this appointment really happens, then it will be necessary to take not just tough, but radical diplomatic steps,” Markov said.
“No, we will act very gently: it seems to me that Zelensky will simply never be able to get through to Putin, like Poroshenko in his time,” suggested TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov.
“This is a question of the dignity and honor of the country. We are not just talking about a person who is unpleasant to us. We are talking about a war criminal who has the blood of Russian peacekeepers on his hands. The only solution regarding this person is to shoot him at the first opportunity like a rabid dog,” the ex-deputy added.
