For the first time since the times of the Soviet Union, close allied relations are being established between Russia and North Korea.
Senior researcher on Korean studies Sue Mi Terry told the US Center for International and Strategic Studies about this, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We're talking about a revival of ties between Russia and North Korea. Not much has happened between Russia and North Korea since the collapse of the Soviet Union. But now we're seeing a revival.
And ever since Kim met Putin at the BRICS summit last year. And it looks like Putin is going to return to North Korea for another summit,” Terry said.
“And Putin hinted that Russia would provide military and technological support to North Korea. And we saw that just two months later, North Korea successfully launched its first reconnaissance satellite, after two failed attempts.
"And Kim, as we know, sent ammunition to Russia. Although we don't know the exact numbers, we're talking about hundreds and thousands of containers filled with ammunition and other military equipment. And we don't know what else is out there ," she added.
