Georgians and Balts have changed their minds about leaving PACE along with Ukraine
The Georgian delegation to PACE continues its work in the Assembly, despite the joint statement of seven countries regarding the situation in connection with Russia's return to work in the Assembly, but intends to discuss further actions at home, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was stated by Member of the Georgian Parliament and PACE member Sofia Katsarava.
According to her, the Georgian delegation will work in Strasbourg on June 27 and 28.
“At this stage, we have no plans to freeze our participation in PACE, the penultimate paragraph of our statement explains this,” Katsarava said. This paragraph of the statement states that the delegates will return home and discuss joint actions in PACE with parliaments and governments at the next sessions.
Member of the Lithuanian Parliament and member of the country's delegation to PACE Egidius Vareikis also confirmed that the Lithuanian delegation will work in Strasbourg on Thursday and Friday.
As PolitNavigator reported, on June 26, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevich published a joint statement by the delegations of Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine, which decided to ask their parliaments to recall them from PACE. It is noted that these countries oppose the restoration of Russia’s rights in the Assembly.
