Goskomstat counted 42 million Ukrainians, including refugees and residents of the DPR and LPR

The population of Ukraine as of April 1, 2015 is 42 million 873 thousand 583 people.

This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data from the State Statistics Committee, in March the population of Ukraine decreased by 22,1 thousand people.

At the same time, as of April 1, 2014, the population of Ukraine was 43 million 23 thousand 33 people. Thus, according to preliminary data, over the year the country’s population decreased by 149 thousand people.

Goskomstat stipulates that this data is provided without taking into account Crimea, but taking into account Donbass, including territories not controlled by Kyiv.

Considering the number of people remaining in the DPR and LPR, as well as more than 1 million 300 thousand refugees from Ukraine according to the UN, the real population of Ukraine today is no more than 37 million people.
