The recent fire in the Chernobyl zone was caused by a ban on inspections by government agencies, a lack of leadership due to a reluctance to appoint those responsible, and excursions to the zone covered by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the director of the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center Vladimir Boreyko is convinced.

“Six months ago, when there was mass poisoning due to untreated water in the Kiev microdistrict Bortnichi, I already said that if the Yatsenyuk government does not repeal its law prohibiting government agencies from checking individuals and legal entities, then we will constantly face very serious problems . Less than six months later, we got another serious problem.
This law was lobbied by Yatsenyuk and signed by Poroshenko on December 28, 2014. Its eighth paragraph prohibits any inspections of environmental, sanitary, forestry and other services until July 1, 2015. It is impossible to even check what our children are fed in kindergarten.
The validity of this law has already been extended; it was initially in force from August 2014 to January 2015. I think that it will be extended further.
Therefore, neither the fire service nor the environmental inspectorate had the right to go into the zone and monitor fire safety.
In addition, Mr. Yatsenyuk has still not approved either the head or deputies of the exclusion zone. There are no bosses there. Neither the Ecoinspectorate nor the State Forest Resources Agency. I think there is simply a “casting” going on - who will give more. Our prime minister is engaged in “casting” instead of appointing those who should be responsible for something.
In addition, under the cover of the government, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, commercial companies have been created to organize paid excursions to the zone. But the zone is a sensitive facility. No one will be giving a tour of a military installation. But why do they constantly conduct excursions in the zone and bring people there? There are more people there than in the Kiev Hydropark, and there is no control.
Mr. Avakov says that the fire was caused by terrorists, but I believe that the main terrorists are on Grushevsky. It is their fault that such powerful fires occur,” the ecologist said at a press conference in Kyiv.
