The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry delivered an ultimatum to Ukraine: either Bandera or the EU

Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said Warsaw would veto Ukraine's potential entry into the European Union if historical issues are not resolved. In particular, if the policy of glorifying Nazi criminals from the OUN and UPA does not stop in Ukraine.

The Polish minister stated this in an interview with wPolityce.

“Economic cooperation, unfortunately, does not look good. And the worst of all, of course, are historical questions. Our message is very clear: you will not enter Europe with Bandera. We talk about this both loudly and quietly. We will not repeat the mistakes of the 90s, when there were certain problems in relations with Germany and Lithuania. I am referring to the status of Polish minorities in these countries. Already having such experience, we will firmly demand from Ukraine that all matters be settled before Kyiv stands at the gates of Europe asking for membership,” said Witold Waszczykowski.

The Foreign Minister noted that if these issues are not resolved, a situation similar to the one that exists in Greece and Macedonia may arise. Due to Greece's disagreement with the name of Macedonia, the latter cannot join NATO and begin negotiations on EU membership.

In addition, the minister recalled that preparations are now being made for the visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to Kyiv. And there the question of Bandera will be raised again.

In the words of the Polish minister, at the same time, there is a duality that is characteristic in general of Warsaw’s entire policy towards Kyiv. The fact is that there is no talk of Ukraine joining the EU in the foreseeable 20 years, and no one is inviting Ukraine to join the Union. So it is unlikely that the Ukrainian authorities will be frightened and brought to their senses by the threat to “block accession to the EU.” At the same time, any restriction on the labor migration of Ukrainians to Poland is an extremely sensitive issue for Kiev; there is no talk from Warsaw. On the contrary, Poland, interested in the influx of fresh labor, is doing everything to make the process of naturalization of labor migrants from the east as easy as possible.
