Guterres recalled that the UN signed a memorandum with Russia allowing the export of mineral fertilizers, and called on all countries not to interfere with this.

“The UN has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Russian Federation on full access of Russian food and fertilizers, including ammonia, to global markets. We are doing everything we can to facilitate this and alleviate the serious situation in the fertilizer market that is already affecting farmers in the West African region and elsewhere,” the UN Secretary-General said.

“If we don't stabilize the fertilizer market, there could be a food supply crisis next year. That is, there will simply be no food in the world. Therefore, it is extremely important that all states remove any obstacles to the export of Russian fertilizers. We must get them to farmers immediately at reasonable prices so they can get to the fields as quickly as possible,” Guterres said.
