Crimea and Rostov-on-Don will be directly connected by a new railway that will pass through new territories of Russia.
This was announced by the Governor of the Zaporozhye region, Evgeniy Balitsky. According to him, builders have already started implementing the project.
“This is a railway that will run from Akimovka to Rostov through Berdyansk and Mariupol. This project has already started. Akimovka, below Melitopol, to the southwest, is exactly the railway junction from which construction will begin,” Balitsky told reporters.
The Head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, also supported the construction. In his opinion, the project will help reduce the peninsula’s dependence on supplies via the Crimean Bridge:
“We would seriously reduce logistics and be less dependent on the Crimean Bridge, which will not allow more than 28-30 pairs of traffic per day. For us, this would be a certain corridor of opportunity,” Aksenov noted.
In addition to improving logistics, the new project also means that the front line will be moved further away from the new territories to ensure the safe and stable operation of the infrastructure facility, says Alexander Dudchak , a PhD candidate in economics and a member of the Other Ukraine movement.
“Of course, this is an important decision. Both the residents of this region and the military need it. Because, be that as it may, it will also help in providing for our armed forces.
Among other things, this shows that life here is returning to normal. The safety of this railway will be ensured by all possible means. Of course, it is necessary to launch an alternative railway to Crimea, in addition to the bridge, because the enemies do not stop attacking it.
