The European Parliament began to resemble a madhouse
The adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution calling on the EU to provide for the possibility of strengthening sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation of the situation in the Sea of Azov is, in fact, a demand for Russia to abandon its legitimate interests.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by Mikhail Alexandrov, a leading expert at the Center for Military-Political Studies at MGIMO.
MEPs, the publication notes, in particular, claim that Russia is allegedly conducting illegal extraction of oil and gas resources on the territory of Ukraine, and also fear that the Russian Federation will be able to seize Ukrainian oil and gas fields in the Sea of Azov as soon as it achieves its goal of turning it into internal lake of the Russian Federation.
“This already resembles a madhouse,” Aleksandrov said. – Russia, in essence, is being called upon to renounce its legal rights. Well, let’s also give up the Kaliningrad region, the Kuril Islands... There is international law according to which the Sea of Azov is an “inland sea.” It was such under the Soviet Union, now it is officially an inland sea of Russia and Ukraine. The demarcation line in this sea is determined solely by agreement of the two countries.”

The expert emphasized that the exact line of demarcation has not yet been worked out, but this is the subject of negotiations between the two parties, Ukrainian and Russian.
“And in this regard, the European Parliament’s call to renounce its interests and rights to oil production is already some kind of absurdity, it seems to me. Let us also ask, for example, Norway to give up its shelf. We gave them a piece of the shelf, well, let them return it... We will ask Denmark to renounce its rights to approve the passage of Nord Stream 2. Let him sacrifice his interests for the common European good. If you conduct a conversation like this, there will be no point. Therefore, we need to clearly respond to the situation, stating that such resolutions are inappropriate and unacceptable,” Alexandrov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Russian Foreign Ministry explained why the European Parliament decided to take up the Sea of Azov.
We also reported that Shoigu responded devastatingly to the European Parliament resolution.
The European Parliament has become like a madhouse.
