“This is the market” – the US abandoned Europe in a difficult situation
The Americans did not want to fill the “brotherly” European gas market in conditions when it was more profitable for them to supply liquefied gas to China.
Russian financier Andrei Movchan, who fled to Britain, stated this in an interview with the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy.
“They won’t shoot themselves in the foot, this is not Russia. They do not have Voronezh on their territory. They can impose sanctions against others, but they will not touch their own. Why lose profits,” said Movchan.
At the same time, he admitted that the Americans had previously promised to support the European market, pushing the EU to abandon Russian gas pipelines.
“The Americans, of course, sought to secure the European gas market. This dictates the desire to attack Nord Stream. But in the current local situation, they do not need the European gas market, because they have somewhere to sell all their gas in the East. They cannot put a line of National Guards in front of the tankers and say: sail to Europe. This is a market,” Movchan said.
