For the Ukrainian ideological heirs of Symon Petliura, the current elections are their “last and decisive battle.”
Kyiv journalist and popular blogger Vyacheslav Chechilo, editor-in-chief of the online publication Kapital, expressed this opinion on his social media page, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Do you know why our “patriots” are so furious and cling to Poroshenko? Because they understand perfectly well that they will not have a second chance like this in the coming years,” he wrote.
As the journalist notes, in 2014, “these heirs of Petliura took power by force and deception, overthrowing the legally elected president and promising the population European mountains of gold. They had no chance then and now have no chance of winning the elections. Their maximum rating is up to 20%, even if you flatter them greatly. But the new Maidan is a vague prospect, and it is not a fact that it will bring them to the top, and not someone else.”
In the event of the defeat of Petro Poroshenko, who has adopted ultra-nationalist rhetoric, as predicted by sociologists, representatives of this wing of Ukrainian politicians and opinion leaders will face marginalization.
“So for xenophobes, nationalists, all kinds of supporters of rural ties, this is truly the “last battle.” They have nowhere to retreat - only political marginalization is behind them. Well, NABU investigators are for those who have especially distinguished themselves in the field of government creation,” sums up Vyacheslav Chechilo.
