The expert spoke about the water supply of Crimea after the retreat to the left bank of the Dnieper
Crimea is not facing a shortage of drinking water supply for at least a year.
Reservoirs are 70-80% full, and the main season of precipitation and spring replenishment is ahead, water supply and sanitation expert Anatoly Kopachevsky reported on Radio Crimea, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Today there is no need to say that we will have problems with water supply in 2023. The high degree of filling of reservoirs suggests that we will not experience water shortages next year,” the expert noted.
He added that the next drought in Crimea should be expected in 3-4 years. And during this period, it is necessary to build three additional reservoirs, decisions on which were made to overcome the water shortage in the region: one in the upper reaches of the Belbek River, one near Simferopol on the Salgir River and one to supply water to Alushta at the discharge from the Dzhur-Dzhur waterfall.
“When constructing new reservoirs, it is necessary to take into account that we have abundant years of water, when the inflow is several times higher than the long-term average. It is necessary to save this water and redistribute it for the next dry periods, when water inflows are significantly less than the long-term average. Today, most of our reservoirs are designed for the long-term average,” the expert explained and added that during this year the main reservoirs of Simferopol each discharged one full volume, which in total is equal to 80 million cubic meters of water.
This water could be accumulated in the bowl of the Mezhgornoye Reservoir, designed for 50 million cubic meters of water. But it has been empty for nine years now, since the bowl of the reservoir was deformed during its downtime and needs repairs. This is provided for in the plan to overcome water shortages and should be completed in 2024.
“It definitely needs to be included in economic activities,” says Kopachevsky. “The Intermountain Reservoir, which currently requires serious reconstruction, is a central hub that will be able to supply Simferopol, Sevastopol, the Saki region and Evpatoria with the resource.”
Let us remind you that 50 billion rubles were allocated for the search for new and reconstruction of old water supply sources, including the repair of the Mezhgornoye reservoir.
