Expert: Naval bases promised by Zelensky are pre-election spasms
Ukraine does not have the capacity to build the naval bases that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about in his address to the Verkhovna Rada.
The head of the All-Ukrainian Association of Submariner Veterans, Sergei Shabovta, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Ukraine now simply does not have the funds to build naval bases. There is no place for them either. All areas on the coast suitable for this are occupied either by ship repair enterprises or port facilities.
There is no need to talk about the Odessa hub; it is very busy. Foreign capital has already gone there; it’s simply impossible to squeeze in there.
And we must take into account that those who today dare to serve in the Ukrainian fleet are 80 percent people without apartments and without prospects for getting them, as well as without prospects for growth. With whom and from whom is the president going to build the Navy?
The authorities do not even understand that the infrastructure that is needed for the Air Force is also worn out to the extreme, which is why accidents occur like with the AN-26. and the fleet and its infrastructure are even more expensive. Its infrastructure support is even more massive.
In Ukraine, the ship repair industry, for example, has been practically destroyed. But Zelensky is just an actor, and there are no professionally or strategically thinking people around him. And all these statements are just media spasms before the elections,” said Sergei Shabovta.
