“Before the war, there were thousands of businesses in Aleppo, most of them pharmaceutical. Now they have been taken to Turkey. Syria is under sanctions. Expensive medications cannot be obtained. Even spare parts for good equipment that is available are not allowed. We saw children with cancer. They can be helped, childhood cancer is being treated, but because of European sanctions, it is impossible to bring medicines and equipment,” Sablin laments.
The ban even applies to baby food for infants. According to the Duma member, not a single Western charitable organization is currently providing assistance to the population of Aleppo.
“We have heard a lot over the past six months, when the city was being liberated, from the Western media, statements that children are allegedly dying there. We have seen with our own eyes: children are now returning to school after a 5-year break. They thank Russia. Not a single Western humanitarian mission. Where are these White Helmets? Where are these Doctors Without Borders? We drove through the entire eastern Aleppo and did not see a single Western humanitarian organization,” said Alexander Yushchenko, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
