On approach to Sevastopol, two anti-aircraft missiles of the S-200 air defense system, converted into a strike version, were shot down. Fragments of intercepted targets fell in a deserted area with subsequent detonation on the ground.
There were no casualties or damage, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“According to preliminary data, a missile was shot down in the Kara-Koba area, and the warhead detonated on the ground in a field. No people were hurt. There is no damage to the infrastructure. No fire was recorded at the site. All crews have been returned to their deployment points, but continue to be on high alert,” said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.
Sevastopol public pages report that windows in houses were broken from the blast wave when rocket debris fell. At the same time, the Black Sea Fleet repelled a UAV attack over the sea. All actions were supervised by 6 NATO reconnaissance aircraft, which circled in neutral waters.
According to experts, the target of the attack was the energy infrastructure of Sevastopol. One of the missiles was shot down near the village of Sugarloaf, not far from the Balaklava thermal power plant.
