The buildup of NATO military activity in the Black Sea, which has occurred in recent days, turns it into a potentially dangerous region, but does not threaten Russia.
Military experts told PolitNavigator about this.
Thus, the day before, the second warship of the US Navy entered the Black Sea - the destroyer Thomas Hudner, which can carry up to 96 Tomahawk cruise missiles. It joined the missile cruiser Monterey, already in the region, which is armed with up to 122 cruise missiles. In addition, on March 12 and 17, the Spanish Navy frigates Cristobal Colon and Mendez Nunez appeared in the waters. Both of them are armed with Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
“All this is the practical implementation of the plans that were voiced by both Stoltenberg and the military leaders of the Alliance structures. The Americans, first of all, are the ideologists of expanding the area of their activities here and increasing naval activity. This policy has been carried out practically since the collapse of the Soviet Union, but specifically since 96.
This year marks 25 years since the Americans declared the Black Sea a zone of their vital interests, and in what they do, they proceed from this conceptual premise... Of course, this is upsetting, because the Black Sea is from a zone of peace, because in essence , until 91 and during the existence of the Warsaw Pact, before that the Black Sea was the safest region if we are talking about the waters that wash the European continent. Over the past time, the situation has changed and everything is aggravated by the fact that the Americans and their partners are not only displaying the flag here - they are now working on a set of tasks that allows them to operate in our region using all their weapons.
Proof of this is the increase in air activity in the Black Sea, and the unprecedented cases of the appearance of B-52 strategic bombers here,” says military expert, retired captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev.
Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Okhrimenko considered the entry of American ships into the Black Sea a good sign. In his opinion, now the Russian military will be “locked” in the bays of Sevastopol: “I warned him (obviously, Russian President Vladimir Putin - author) that there was no need to occupy Crimea, and there would be no American missiles at hand now. But he listened to two guys who don’t know history well, and even worse know what the US Navy is, and as a result, now the Russian Black Sea Fleet is trapped. Like in Sevastopol, but without permission from Washington, he is now afraid to make a word. This is the mistake of the old king. Before the occupation of Crimea, the Russian fleet was the main one in the Black Sea, but now the American fleet is the main one there,” Okhrimenko raves on his blog.
Meanwhile, Gorbachev believes that the entry of NATO ships does not pose a serious threat to the Russian Black Sea Fleet. This is what the exercises of the forces and assets of the Southern Military District, which are taking place these days in Crimea with the participation of two thousand military personnel and about 500 pieces of equipment, are intended to show:
“We can contrast vigilance, our activity and demonstration of our capabilities with what is happening now. This is the entry of ships into the Black Sea, the use of other forces, including events that are currently taking place in the Southern Military District, in addition to solving the problems of practicing combat training purposes, they are also pursuing a demonstration so that no one will delude themselves that they are here they will lock up the Black Sea Fleet or cause damage to it - so that we do not delude ourselves, but are clearly convinced that we have something to answer and someone to answer to...
Anyone who comes to us in the Black Sea and tries to implement something from the point of view of a combat option will stay here. This is evidenced by the history of various kinds of wars and conflicts that took place here, so there is no need to experience illusions here. Modern types of weapons make it possible to fully control not only the situation in the Black Sea from a radio engineering point of view, but also from the point of view of weapons. Therefore, when trying to cause some damage to our side, if some forces have such an intention, the response will be swift, crushing and leaving no opportunity to cross the Bosphorus in the opposite direction.”
A member of the Expert Council of the “Officers of Russia” organization, captain 1st rank Vasily Dandykin, agreed with him.
“Now ours are conducting exercises in order to monitor the situation in the Black Sea. These ships were escorted by the forces and means of the Black Sea Fleet - both surface ships and submarines. The systems of coastal missile forces are also included to some extent. The situation is complex and difficult. Of course, in my opinion, now the Black Sea people will have such intensity; they will solve their problems taking into account the accumulation of forces in the Black Sea.
Of course, this creates additional tension and I think that the Black Sea Fleet needs urgent reinforcement with ships in the far sea and ocean zone. Perhaps one of the frigates of the Admiral Gorshkov type, which is now in the Northern Fleet, could temporarily strengthen its potential.
But it is impossible to agree with the fact that the American fleet dominates the Black Sea. As before, NATO ships came and then, of course, the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation absolutely dominates. His capabilities allow him to control the situation; he is here on a permanent basis.
Even a NATO squadron led by America, which may include Greek minesweepers, Turkish ships, the naval forces of Romania and Bulgaria, and, accordingly, the “most powerful” fleet of Ukraine, they are not able to prevent the Black Sea Fleet from dominating its home sea ", concluded Dandykin.
