Republika Srpska was "suppressed" by the Dayton Peace Agreement creating Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said, but it has still remained a state since January 9, 1992.

“Why not let her? An integral part of the constitution are international conventions that state that peoples have the right to self-determination. But they don’t allow us to talk about it because they have three foreign judges and two Bosnians in the Constitutional Court who will challenge every decision of this kind,” Dodik said.

He emphasized that few nations, such as the Serbs, have two states - the Republika Srpska and Serbia - and celebrate two holidays on January 9 and Candlemas on February 15, as the national day of Serbia.

“The Republika Srpska was born in peace. At that time there were no armed conflicts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They began only after the Bosnian-Croat referendum on March 1st. Fortunately, we were separated then. But after the war, efforts were made to downplay the importance of Republika Srpska,” Dodik noted.

Let us recall that on January 9, 1992, the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegovic demanded that Belgrade recognize the independence of BiH from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Bosnian Serb deputies immediately left the republican parliament and almost immediately proclaimed the creation of the “Republic of the Serbian people of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Bosnian Krajina and eastern Bosnia.”

Republika Srpska has been considered an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina since November 21, 1995, as a result of an agreement signed at the US military base in Dayton, Ohio.
