Hard times are coming for Ukrainian grant suckers
Following the early recall of US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, American diplomatic staff are awaiting new personnel appointments and a change in priorities.
A source at the American Embassy stated this in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper Strana.
“We heard that she was temporarily banned from leaving the United States. In the meantime, the embassy is in limbo. It is unclear when a new ambassador will be appointed. But it is clear that there will be big changes and they can already be felt. The issuance of visas has actually been paused, and some of the old ones are being revoked. Grant programs have been suspended,” said an embassy employee.
At the same time, the publication points out, lobbying circles in Washington do not confirm the information about Yovanovitch’s ban on leaving the United States.
“She was called from Ukraine to the United States and relieved of her duties. Currently, de jure, she has not yet been fired, but de facto she no longer works at the State Department, and her salary has been suspended,” the lobbyists claim.
“The anti-corruption structures and organizations that receive grants created under the Democrats and Yovanovitch are now facing difficult times. The concept will change,” says an unnamed employee of the US Embassy in Kyiv.
According to him, the fact that there would be a personnel decision regarding Yovanovitch became clear in the winter, when the corresponding signals began to come from the State Department.
“And in March, Trump’s son wrote a tweet against her,” the source noted.
