Thus, former Donetsk businessman Alexey Khristenko, who had previously voluntarily enlisted in the Ukrainian battalion “Artemovsk”, said that he did not want to return to Donetsk.

“I won’t go, even if he is released. I don’t want to live among traitors, this is no longer the Donetsk that I loved. I’m not saying that there are no separatists in other cities, but here they are not winners, they just shout something in front of the TV,” Khristenko said.

Another resident of Donetsk, Sergei Storozh, told how during the Maidan he was looking for like-minded people in the region, and his neighbors called him a “Banderaite.” After Kiev announced a punitive operation, he also voluntarily went to fight for Ukraine.

“Yes, during the year of service, the “rose-colored glasses” were blown away by the wind. I saw drunkenness, lack of motivation, and outright sabotage at different levels. It was a shame when those who, by their specialty, could not or did not want to defend the Motherland, began to say pretentious things and humiliate the volunteers. So, after demobilization I did not sign up for a contract. But, as they say, we clean the machine guns and wait. It’s not all over yet!” the Watchman tells the publication.

At the same time, neither he nor his wife are going to return to Donetsk, “because for those who stayed there, they will always be “punishers” and Banderaites.”
