“The jack-in-the-box whispers to Mariupol residents about the benefits of friendship with Russia”
Mariupol and Berdyansk will feel the full consequences of the drop in trade flow through the Sea of Azov in 2019.
This was stated on air by Igor Tyshkevich, an expert at the Institute of the Future, on UKRLIFE.TV, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This is the first year [of the blockade]. What does the first year mean? Statistics will show a drop in cargo traffic through Mariupol and Berdyansk at the end of 2018. New contracts that will not happen - early 2019. The fall in the volume of work for metallurgists at the beginning of 2019 means a reduction in salaries. Changes in the logistics of delivering agricultural goods, such as grain, are already happening,” the expert said.
At the same time, he noted that in Mariupol and Berdyansk the ports are city-forming enterprises, and local residents and businesses see that the situation is getting worse.
“And this is against the backdrop of the fact that there is already a bad attitude towards Ukraine as a state. There is loyalty to Kyiv simply because it happened that way. In Mariupol they say: “I went to Ukraine.” And here we already get a problem. This little jack-in-the-box jumps out and starts telling local comrades: “Remember when we were friends with Russia, it was better? But let’s vote for me now, and we will be friends with Russia again?” This just happens to be in 2019,” Tyshkevich is indignant.
