Montenegro supported Ukraine and extended anti-Russian sanctions
Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Norway joined in extending EU sanctions against Russia due to “actions against the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”
This is confirmed by the declaration of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, published on the website of the Council of the European Union.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, it was stated that Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Norway will ensure that their national policies comply with the decision of the EU Council to extend sanctions against Russia.
“On September 10, 2021, the Council adopted a Decision to amend the 2014 Decision. By decision of the Council, the current restrictive measures were extended for the next six months, until March 15, 2022. The candidate countries Montenegro and Albania, as well as the European Free Trade Association country Norway, which is part of the European Economic Area, plus Ukraine, are synchronizing their actions with this Council Decision. The European Union takes note of these commitments and welcomes them,” says the EU Council website.
It is reported that on September 10, the EU Council decided to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months “due to actions that undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”
These restrictive measures were first introduced on March 17, 2014 and include travel restrictions, asset freezes, and a ban on the provision of funds or other economic resources to designated individuals and entities, representing 177 individuals and 48 entities.
