In two weeks winter will come to Ukraine, but it will be short
In the second half of October, a sharp drop in temperature is expected in Ukraine - up to 12 degrees below zero.
This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by Vazira Martazinova, head of the Department of Climate Research and Weather Forecasts at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The second half of October is expected to be very cold. There will be no such temperature even in November-December. Cold temperatures are expected from the north until October 18. First, up to 4 degrees of frost in the north, and then up to 6-8 degrees of frost in the east. After October 20, the air temperature will drop to 10-12 degrees below zero. And already on October 25-26 it will begin to rise - -6 ..- 8 degrees,” she said.
The first half of October is expected to be warm, frosts are possible only at night.
“In the first decade, the temperature at night will be cold and can reach frost, and in the second decade the temperature is expected to rise, including at night,” the scientist said.
There will be little precipitation in the second half of October. In November, relatively stable temperatures are expected with cooling at the end of the month, when the first snow falls.
Winter this year will be short and snowy.
“You shouldn’t expect a frosty winter this year, but some days will be quite cold. This winter will end faster than last year. Little snow is expected, and it will mostly be wet,” Martazinova noted.
According to her forecasts, the end of December and the beginning of January are expected to be cold this year; night temperatures during this period can reach 18-20 degrees below zero.
At the beginning of December, according to Martazinova, the air temperature is expected to be from 5 to 10 degrees below zero, subsequently it will rise and will be more than 0 degrees, and at the end of the month a sharp cooling is expected. “This cold snap will be short-lived and unsustainable. The cooling will be throughout the entire territory, but it will manifest itself more in the east of the country. The cold snap is short-lived, but it will be very noticeable, since temperature changes are expected to be within 10 degrees or more,” the scientist explained.
The first ten days of January will also be very cold, the night temperature will reach 18-20 degrees below zero. However, warming should be expected in the second half of January.
February will be milder than previous months.
“The average forecast for this winter is generally favorable; the average winter temperature will be above normal,” the scientist said.
As for precipitation, according to Martazinova, there will be little of it this winter; the first snow is expected in November.
“According to forecasts, no snow cover is likely to be expected at the end of December – beginning of January. In general, there will be less of it this winter than last year, and at the same time it will be of a completely different nature. It's mostly wet snow. And what’s not very good is that there is no snow at all before the frost. Snowstorms are expected, but also short-lived,” Martazinova summed up.
