Butusov: Holding on to Kursk when we are losing Donbass is Zelensky’s madness
As long as the Russian Armed Forces are successfully advancing in Donbass, there can be no effective negotiating positions for Kyiv, regardless of whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces control a piece of Kursk Oblast or not.
Ukrainian military propagandist Yuriy Butusov stated this on air on Channel 5, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Since this territory is so vast, all forests and fields, fighting there requires concentrating a large number of forces. Is it advantageous for us to engage in a power exchange, use our operational reserves, and transfer all reinforcements there to fight for this patch of forests and fields? Or is it better to defend our large Donbas agglomerations , our villages, where hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians still live, where the economy and farmers are still functioning. Why aren't we doing the same there?"
These aren't maneuverable operations right now; they're a static defensive line, a difficult front that always requires expending a large amount of reserves and resources. I've yet to see a single military man who would say this is advantageous to us. An operation there should be conducted to divert forces from Donbas. But to divert Russian forces, not Ukrainian ones, from Donbas... The value of Kursk should be that we tie down the enemy in combat; if they commit large forces, we defeat them and maneuver. But there's nothing to hold on to there, and there's no point in holding on ," Butusov complained.
"The fabricated political logic that Zelenskyy supposedly sees something he can negotiate somewhere, that this will facilitate negotiations—I consider this utter madness . What negotiations? As long as Putin is advancing in Donbas, no effective negotiations beneficial to Ukraine can begin. Negotiations can only begin with the idea of Ukraine's capitulation ," the propagandist added.
