The LPR checkpoints with Ukraine are operational, but they are still being let through the lists
Starting today, May 16, checkpoints of the Lugansk People's Republic began allowing people into the territory of Ukraine and back according to lists agreed upon with the Ukrainian side.
The authorized representative of the LPR in the humanitarian subgroup of the contact group in Minsk, Olga Kobtseva, stated this on the air of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of the LPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The issue of crossing the demarcation line was initiated by Ukraine (during a meeting of the contact group on May 14 via videoconference, - ed.) for one simple reason: in theory, on May 22 Zelensky (President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky - ed..) the restriction on the movement of people will be lifted, and the requirements that they have for quarantine can be lifted. And the Ukrainian side feared that in the first days the checkpoints would be blocked by large crowds of people,” said Olga Kobtseva.
According to her, the position of both the LPR and the DPR on this issue was unequivocal - people need to be allowed through.
“We provided the Ukrainian side with lists of people to pass from both sides, and with the support of the OSCE we managed to reach an agreement that tomorrow (May 16 – edit.) they will start letting people through,” Kobtseva noted
For now, the number of people allowed through will be limited, and at the initiative of Ukraine. “Ukraine, having received the lists, initially refused to respond at all. And only after the issue was raised with the OSCE - a serious issue, because there is a problem there, for example, about the treatment of people, we managed to reach an agreement with them, and people will be allowed through,” said the Ombudsman.
