Without Russia, post-Soviet countries could not become great - Zharikhin
After the collapse of the USSR, mostly people who were capable of leading only at the regional level came to power in the new states.
Deputy Director of the CIS Institute, Vladimir Zharikhin, told Komsomolskaya Pravda , PolitNavigator correspondent reported this .
He draws attention to the fact that among the former republics of the USSR, Russia provides the minimum percentage of people leaving for other countries.
In addition, according to him, Russia is the only one that managed not only to build a sovereign and relatively successful economy, but also to maintain political influence in the world, albeit not to the same extent as the Soviet Union.
The political scientist believes that Russia has become more successful in comparison with other post-Soviet countries because it inherited the “imperial political and economic elite.”
“This gave a higher quality of management; it is fundamentally different than in neighboring countries, where after the collapse of the USSR the majority remained at the regional level. They did not know what long-term planning skills or international relations skills were. Within the USSR, we were equal republics, but now, having become independent, we are not equal states. Russia is a great power, and they are small European or Asian countries. And no GDP per capita takes this into account,” Zharikhin concluded.
