“Remember the television commercials that cheerfully announced that “There are 52 million of us”? – the publication reminds. – If five years ago that advertising campaign was remembered with bitter irony, today’s statistics can drive you into deep depression. In less than a year and a half, almost a million people left Ukraine.”
First of all, the magazine associates the current flow of people trying to leave Ukraine with the war and its consequences.
“Over the year, Ukraine has made an athletic leap in the ranking of states whose authorities can commit mass murder among civilians,” Korrespondent emphasizes. – 91st place in 2014 and 20th in 2015. The statistical risk of such murders a year ago was 0,3%, now it is 1,7%. These are not domestic “all-killers,” as analysts of the Early Warning Project launched by the Washington Holocaust Memorial Museum report.”
Moreover, a high place in the Washington ranking is far from the only “achievement” of post-Maidan Ukraine.
“In the Reporters Without Borders freedom of speech ranking, Ukraine dropped two positions this year – to 129th place out of 180,” the publication points out. – In the HelpAge Imternational ranking in terms of the standard of living of pensioners, although it has risen, it ranks 73rd out of 96. At the beginning of the year, we also topped the ranking of the lowest average salaries in Europe – €178. In light of these records, 900 thousand migrants no longer seem such an astronomical figure.”
