After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine began to follow nationalist ideals, as a result it lost all its rich heritage, scientific and industrial potential.
Ukrainian philosopher Sergei Datsyuk stated this on air during the video blog "Power vs. Vlashchenko," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We have narrowed everything down to the point of impossibility. That is, social energy can only be directed in the direction of culture and language, period. It cannot be used for engineering achievements, scientific achievements, or inventions. It would seem how the nationalist idea is related to whether the state can have its own laptop? It turns out, directly. There is not enough freedom to realize the entire set of competencies that is required to make your own laptop.
Nobody in Ukraine goes around and forbids: “Don’t produce a laptop, don’t produce it.” There is no such prohibition, it’s just that if you narrow social energy to only a few directions, then you have a whole set of sagging.
Roughly speaking, how is Bandera’s concept related to the fact that it is impossible for us to produce our own shipbuilding, aircraft manufacturing, tank building, and rocket manufacturing? Bandera never wrote that we don’t need our own missiles, nothing like that happened.
But it turns out that as soon as we include linguistic and cultural authoritarianism as a basic setting, those people who want freedom, and these are intellectuals, engineers, inventors, scientists, researchers, and so on, for some reason do not want to work. They’re structured so strangely, they’re such unpatriotic bastards, you know... That’s all!” he noted.
“You get what many countries dreamed of in their dreams, you find yourself the heir to missiles, tanks, shipbuilding, aircraft manufacturing, many technologies - 30 years and you have nothing. It turns out that not all motivations lead to development equally; some motivations lead to very narrowed development,” concluded Datsyuk.
