Babitsky: Putin took Donbass under protection

Having signed a decree on simplifying the procedure for issuing Russian citizenship to residents of the DPR and LPR, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed skepticism regarding the new course of the Ukrainian authorities.

“Everyone was expecting something like this; rumors about the distribution of passports have been circulating for a month and a half. I think that Putin thereby shows that he does not strongly believe that the political course of Ukraine will change. He essentially takes Donbass under protection. Since Russian citizens will live here, Russia will have the right to provide them with protection in the most decisive way,” he believes.
