American construction battalion is building a military base in Ukraine
Ukrainian media launched a campaign in support of the construction of the Fleet Control Center for the Ukrainian Navy, which is being built by American military engineers in Ochakov.
Local media outlets are praising the construction, promising that its completion will give the Ukrainian navy a new look, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
American military builders plan to finish construction of an operations center, a repair shop for boats and a checkpoint along the perimeter of the future base where the remnants of the Ukrainian Navy are moored next year.
“An extremely ambitious plan for the formation of the Ukrainian fleet without relying on the Soviet legacy is being implemented. It is worth noting that over the past two years, reform steps have been taken, such as: reconfiguration of fleet forces, creation of full-fledged military units, formation of coastal troops, as well as the transition to NATO standards in various areas, from English language proficiency to joint exercises,” – writes the Shotam publication.
Ukrainian media are presenting the construction of the center as charity and investments from American public and private companies.
“Currently, the work is being carried out by the first construction battalion of the US Navy (Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One), as well as the American company KVG, which organizes and supports the work, in particular the delivery of building materials from Ukrainian manufacturers,” adds Real World. 
As PolitNavigator previously reported, the naval operations center will be used to plan and command exercises, which the Americans have regularly conducted in recent years in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine. In previous years, military maneuvers have included rehearsals for the seizure of Russia's Crimea.
