The Ukrainian government is “an armed detachment of the American opposition that is driving Trump into the stall of the old policy.” Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin stated this on the Red Line TV channel.

“The escalation is subordinated to purely political goals not of the Ukrainian authorities, but of the opposition in the United States. The command was given from there, so that until the Trump administration publicly expresses its position on Ukraine, to drive them into a situation where they need to clearly indicate their opinion. This has already forced the Trump team to speak out within the framework of the position previously occupied by the Obama administration,” Zharikhin said.
He believes that the tactics of the Ukrainian government have proven to be politically effective.
“Trump was going to slightly change the model of relations in the Russia-Ukraine-US triangle. The escalation was not only criminal (people died), but also, unfortunately, quite politically effective. Trump was going to smoothly turn this herd rushing against Russia for Ukraine. Now he is forced to gallop in the same direction. We can’t expect radical things from Trump now,” Zharikhin said.
