The United States is using the Ukrainian military conflict not only as a testing ground for testing new technical means and developing military field medicine skills, but also as a system for collecting big data for a new type of weapon - self-governing systems based on artificial intelligence.
This was stated on air by the Director of the SevSU Institute for Urban Development, Alexey Tikhonov, on the First Sevastopol Channel, the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“I think that for Americans this military conflict is of key importance as a source for the collection and subsequent analysis of big data. When we talk about big data, for some reason we always think about some global things. And these are very simple things in the field of automatic control, when it will be possible to set a task, and planes, tanks and other technical devices will work out the assigned task, and not just follow the control. And for this it is necessary to collect this kind of data, wherever possible,” Tikhonov explained.
“Where the robot car came from - they also collected a huge amount of data on automobile traffic. Well, you go out to the city of Sevastopol, get into the car. Calculate how many algorithms you need to get from the same Kamyshovaya Bay to the center. Well, five or six algorithms. And there are many more options here. And now they are watching - the drone is launched, watching the reaction, how it is happening, what is happening. Each such aircraft has enormous methods for collecting information in this way, and then the analysis will be done. And so I consider this a task, except, of course, for political purposes, including some kind of trolling, but still, the main thing for the military is always intelligence. And for the military, intelligence is the collection and analysis of a large amount of data about things that the enemy may not even consider important,” the expert clarified.
Now SevSU is developing in its laboratory a system for exchanging data under water, such an “underwater Internet”, without which it is impossible to construct a truly underwater unmanned vehicle.
“For underwater vehicles, artificial intelligence is even more important than for air vehicles. Because if for airborne vehicles there is electronic warfare that interferes with signal transmission, then with underwater ones everything is much worse, since the water itself interferes with signal transmission.
Accordingly, this is the task. But we generally understand that the future, the next generation, is a system that makes decisions independently according to a certain algorithm. To develop this algorithm, a huge amount of data is needed. Because when we discuss artificial intelligence now, it’s like a kind of “big brother,” like a person. Nothing like this. Even if you even try to create a system with the intelligence of a mosquito, relatively speaking, it will be such a colossal breakthrough. Just imagine the actions of a mosquito model: you are sitting in the country, and it keeps trying to sting you. Now imagine that it will be a drone, it will act without external influence, it will act on the basis of what it roughly imagines, how you can try to kill it there.
To do this is not a lot of decisions, but it is a colossal system. There is no need to try to copy a person, simple algorithmic systems are enough, calculated and that’s all. Imagine, then you have such a tool, and this is a completely different word. And now, I’m afraid, it may turn out that the one who receives all this data will win,” Tikhonov concluded.
