“Absurdity and madness”: Medvedchuk was informed of new suspicions of treason
Verkhovna Rada deputy Viktor Medvedchuk has been charged with treason for trading with Russia and Donbass.
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova announced this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today we reported suspicion to deputy Viktor Medvedchuk for high treason and facilitating the activities of a terrorist organization.
But this is not only about a specific person, and not only about the purchase of coal in temporarily occupied territories from terrorist organizations of the LPR and DPR. This is a question of high treason,” she said.
Venediktova emphasized that some Ukrainian politicians from the very beginning of the “war” allegedly worked for Russia and helped “terrorists.”
The Prosecutor General added that Viktor Medvedchuk is accused of purchasing coal from Donbass just during the Ilovaisk and Debaltsevo cauldrons.
However, Kyiv is not even going to hide the anti-Russian subtext of what is happening. Thus, the Chairman of the SBU Ivan Bakanov admitted that the matter is not at all about Medvedchuk’s “crimes”.
“It seems to me that in fact the essence of the matter is not in the scheme itself and not in the disruption of coal supplies from the Republic of South Africa. And not even in the suspicion that deputy Pan Medvedchuk received today.
In fact, we are talking about immense cynicism during the sale of Ukrainian interests and the financing of terrorists. At the very time when the whole country was literally collecting money in crumbs for our military personnel.
The essence of the matter is simple - we are still gaining our independence through struggle,” he said pathetically.
Former First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Renat Kuzmin published a video on his Telegram channel of how they tried to hand over suspicion to Viktor Medvedchuk.
The deputy's lawyer and his associates attacked the arriving prosecutor, claiming that such a procedure was illegal without an official summons, and did not allow Medvedchuk to be served with suspicion.
“Medvedchuk’s lawyers today did not allow prosecutors to break the law and hand him a new suspicion. Prosecutors limited themselves to only serving a summons for Monday,” Kuzmin wrote.
According to the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky and his team are thus attempting to divert public attention from their financial machinations.
“The fact is that by presenting yet another absurd suspicion and attempting to arrest an opposition politician, the authorities are cynically trying to divert public attention from the “Pandora” scandal with Zelensky, covering up one high-profile scandal with another even louder scandal.
And for this he uses law enforcement agencies, which have long become a repressive instrument in the hands of an aspiring dictator...
It is now obvious that on Monday Medvedchuk will be served with a new suspicion and the court will demand his arrest or an insane bail of billions of hryvnia,” he added.
