30 percent will be a great result for Poroshenko
In the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko will, at best, only narrow the gap, but will not defeat Vladimir Zelensky.
Kiev political strategist Sergei Gaidai stated this in a commentary to Kommersant.
“I think that he [Poroshenko] will close the gap, but will not win. You had to work for five years to win. Technology can attract no more than 5%. He has already shown a phenomenal result, rising from 4% of the rating a year ago. I think it will show at least 30% in the elections. And this is a great result,” Gaidai said.
According to him, to maintain power, Poroshenko needs to do something out of the ordinary.
“He has one chance: to break the elections at his knees. He won't win a game of chess. Only if he turns the board over,” the expert noted.
He also recalled the incident in the Kerch Strait, where Russian border guards detained two Ukrainian boats and a tugboat trying to break into the Sea of Azov.
"The Azov episode was part of Poroshenko's election campaign. Sending two boats and a tugboat into the Russians' clutches was cynical," admitted Gaidai, who previously worked for Poroshenko.
