100 million losses per month - Ukraine’s payment for the capture of Nord
“100 million losses per month” was Ukraine’s payment for the seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord, after which Russia strengthened border controls on ships traveling to or from Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Sergei Rybalka stated this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

"The situation in the Sea of Azov is damaging both our country's image and our economy. The estimated losses are one hundred million a month just from the detention of our ships. It's good that there's such a resolution ( by the European Parliament – editor's note ), and we must do everything we can to ensure sanctions are in place and that EU countries increase pressure. Regarding the treaty, I believe that a treaty that isn't worth the paper it's written on should be torn up," he said.
The initiative was also supported by the former mayor of Mariupol, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Mikhail Pozhivanov.
“If we take Mariupol and Berdyansk, then these two sea trade ports have suffered huge losses over the past year. “I support that this agreement should be broken, because today it is more profitable for us to have a 12-mile zone of our water area, we will work according to international law, and other ships will be able to enter the Sea of Azov, these will be neutral waters,” he said.
“They made their bridge thanks, among other things, to this agreement. If it had been denounced, they would not have been able to do this. Today we must denounce and appeal to international courts in order to recognize this water area as international as well. Today we have about 400 agreements in force with the Russian Federation, and no one is reviewing them,” Pozhivanov complained.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported that Russia deployed two new warships to the Sea of Azov on the day the European Parliament adopted a resolution threatening possible increased sanctions against Moscow if the situation in the waters worsens and for the construction of the Crimean Bridge.
