Uneasy truce: Erdogan will strike with the wrong hands
Having received a serious response, Turkey will no longer dare to use its army on a large scale in Syria, but Islamist radicals will continue the war.
This was stated during a press conference by the head of the department of Eurasian integration and development of the SCO Institute of CIS Countries, military expert Vladimir Evseev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Of course, the agreement ( between Putin and Erdogan in Moscow – ed. ) that was reached is temporary," the military expert explained. "Because radical Islamists remain in that territory. They will constantly provoke the Syrian Arab Army into retaliatory action. There will be no real de-escalation zone there, and we will most likely end up with a new crisis with Turkey."
According to the expert, the new round of conflict in Idlib that follows reconciliation will be fundamentally different from what was recently managed to be extinguished.
“Turkey is faced with the fact that its military potential is limited,” says Evseev. “And she will not agree to behave so impudently in Idlib a second time.” She understands that the level of losses can be extremely high. Most likely, the Turkish leadership will be forced to adjust its policy towards Syria based on the example of the not entirely successful military operations that were carried out there.”
According to the expert, the parties will prepare for the continuation of hostilities, taking into account the experience they have gained.
“The truce, I really hope, will last for some time. But the fact that Islamist radicals remained there suggests that a resumption of hostilities is inevitable,” Evseev added.
