A terrible tragedy: construction workers burned alive in Sevastopol
A residential module of a dormitory housing construction workers for the Tavrida Highway has burned down in Sevastopol. Seven people have been killed and two injured, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Fire on the street Neftyanoy, 15, in the village of Saharnaya Golovka, where the construction modules are located, began at about 2 am.
The two-story block, with an area of 200 square meters, was completely burned out. After extinguishing the fire, rescuers began to clear the rubble in search of victims. At first they found the bodies of five builders, then two more.
The building module is metal, the only heat source is air conditioning, and at night the air temperature drops to zero degrees and below.
Most likely, the electrical wiring could not withstand the voltage, and people were trapped in the hot partitions of the module.
“The fire started because of an outlet, the guys said that they were extinguishing the outlet at night and it caught fire. – said one of the builders. “I know four of the dead; one lived next to me.”
The investigation into the fire, especially in terms of compliance with fire safety, is carried out by the Sevastopol prosecutor's office.
The regional department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case. According to the Investigative Committee, more than 100 workers lived in the module.
