Political repression, Harassment of journalists, Ukraine

Kirill Vyshinsky, editor-in-chief of the RIA Novosti Ukraine news agency, who was arrested in Kyiv, was forced today in court to renounce his Ukrainian citizenship and seek the assistance of the Russian president to prevent him from being charged in Ukraine with high treason.

This opinion was expressed by Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots in his Telegram channel.

“As far as I understand, Vyshinsky is renouncing Ukrainian citizenship not for the sake of information hype, but so that he cannot be charged under the article “high treason.” That is why no one in Ukraine will deprive him of his citizenship. Because their plan is simple: to convict, and then exchange him with Russia for some Sentsov. A small victory for Poroshenko, who has lost confidence. But the exchange, according to the procedure, is only through a presidential pardon. So who should he contact?” Kots wrote.
