The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, proposed amending the Constitution of the Republic, according to which Russian would become the only state language, while Ukrainian would lose this status.
The press service of the People's Council of the DPR reported this , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Currently, according to the Constitution of the DPR, the official languages in the Donetsk People's Republic are Russian and Ukrainian. However, the use of Ukrainian as the state language has not yet found practical implementation. At the same time, the use of the Russian language is declared by a number of regulatory legal acts of the Donetsk People's Republic.
Denis Pushilin proposes to amend Article 10 of the Constitution of the Donetsk People’s Republic, defining the status of the Russian language as the only state language in the Republic,” the message says.
At the same time, the People’s Council added that the head of the DPR also proposed changes to the law “On Education” regarding the definition of the language of instruction.
“This need is due to the intensive integration process of the Donetsk People’s Republic with the Russian Federation. The bills will contribute to the increase and enrichment of the spiritual culture of the state, strengthening interstate ties...
The proposed changes to the DPR Law “On Education” assume that the study of the state language will remain mandatory, and Ukrainian and other languages will be taught taking into account the wishes of parents and the capabilities of the educational organization,” the parliament’s press service said.
As a reminder, the previous day, by a decision of the DPR parliament, the state border of the Donetsk People's Republic was legally defined within the former Donetsk Oblast as it was before the start of the military conflict in 2014.
