Russia, in response to Western sanctions, should not introduce confiscation of Western assets on its territory, and should not consider the possibility of stopping oil and gas supplies to the EU.
State Duma deputy from the Sverdlovsk region, Alexander Petrov, announced this at a roundtable discussion of the Russian Public Chamber, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“They put pressure on us like no one else (they didn’t put pressure on us - ed.). We have studied the experience of Iran. We studied the experience of Cuba - under sanctions for 60 years. Experience of other countries. And there were no such sanctions on anyone. The question is not what reason. They would still exist, because we, like Russia, are not needed. I am deeply convinced of this. Will there be complete isolation? Will not be. Most of the world, approximately 2/3, is in favor of not having sanctions for Russia. Those sanctions that want them grab them themselves. They haven't seen inflation like this since World War II. Let them get it.
We are not stopping gas supplies. Although there are a lot of voices now. “Let’s stop the gas?”, “Let’s stop the oil?”. This is a technical button, you can certainly stop it. But Russia has a mission of justice and soft power. We won't do this. You cannot reject foreigners and say that “we will confiscate everything now.” Confiscation is not our way,” the State Duma deputy is convinced.
Petrov called what was happening in the West “insanity.”
“Yesterday I was terribly surprised that even Interpol got involved in the property of everyone who has Russian passports abroad. This is already some kind of insanity. This is their choice. We have a different choice. They have six genders, and we have a traditional family. When a letter came to the State Duma “We ask the delegation to send six genders to the European Parliament,” I came up with four, but couldn’t do two. Zhirinovsky didn’t even name it.
It’s a question of mentality and what traditional values are for us... For us, first of all, it is important to preserve a multinational, confessional country. We are Russians. We are Russians. I am Chuvash, but I am Russian,” the politician insists.
However, he believes that it is impossible to reject everything foreign.
“To form the mentality of civil society - “Yes, buy Russian!” But you can’t reject what’s foreign either. We simply had a bias: in Soviet times, foreign clothes were all “the best.” For thirty years it has been drilled into our brains that foreign things are “the best.” We need to change, and we are changing. These guys (RF Armed Forces – ed.) are true patriots who don’t even need to be invited to rallies. They will do what needs to be done.
I look with hope at those guys who are fighting, because they will lead the whole society with us. We have enough patriots, we need to wake them up a little. So they woke me up,” concluded Petrov.
