Zelensky failed to convince Hungary to stop blocking Ukraine's path to NATO
Hungary's position on holding a Ukraine-NATO commission at the ministerial or presidential level remains consistently negative, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba, the government press service reports.
“The position of Hungary as a whole remains unchanged, and the format, for example, of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the level of ministers or presidents is blocked. But Hungary could have blocked the visit of the North Atlantic Council, too, but did not block it, because here it shows a certain flexibility and shows its understanding of the problems that Ukraine faces, and in the solution of which not only Ukraine, but also the North Atlantic Alliance is interested,” said the vice-president. -Prime Minister
According to Kuleba, Ukraine is analyzing the situation that has arisen in relations with Hungary, in particular regarding cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
Let us recall that Hungary set a course towards blocking the pro-NATO prospects of Kyiv even under the previous government in the person of Petro Poroshenko. This was Budapest’s response to Kyiv’s intransigence on the issue of adjusting the Ukrainian education law that discriminates against national minorities. After the change of power in Kyiv, Hungary expressed hope for positive changes in this issue, but they have not happened yet.
