Zelensky is in vain relying on the Americans
The desire of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to involve America in discussing the topic of Crimea’s ownership in the “Normandy format” will not be realized in practice.
Crimean political experts told Komsomolskaya Pravda about this.
According to political scientist Denis Baturin, these words of Zelensky indicate that he has two erroneous ideas.
“The first is that the issue of Crimea is allegedly not closed, despite the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated more than once that this topic will not be raised again. The second illusion is US participation in the Normandy format. This will not happen; the United States can only exert a shadow influence on the political position of Europe. As for Europe, its interests do not always coincide with the United States,” Baturin said.
In turn, political scientist Vladimir Dzharalla believes that Zelensky, with his statements, is preparing the population of Ukraine for the results of the Normandy Four meeting.
“Taking into account the reaction of the nationalists, they are given a signal: they say, everything is fine, after Donbass we will raise the issue of Crimea. However, this also shows that the line laid down by Western diplomacy from the very beginning of the conflict continues: do not recognize the decision of the Crimeans and pursue a policy of pressure, since a military solution is impossible,” Jarallah noted.
He also expressed the opinion that Zelensky’s mention of the United States indicates “the ongoing supervision of Ukrainian diplomacy by officials of this country.”
Jarallah also suggested that following the meeting in the Normandy format, Europe will make decisions that will reduce the level of sanctions against Russia, since maintaining them is not profitable.
