On Wednesday, October 8, the Stockholm Court of Appeal will hold a hearing on the Stockholm Arbitration Court's decision, which rejected Russia's Gazprom's claims against Naftogaz Ukrainy's gas supply contract under the "take-or-pay" principle, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Executive Director of Naftogaz Group Yuriy Vitrenko wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“Apparently it is symbolic that I celebrate Lawyer’s Day in Stockholm, where, together with the best lawyers in the world, we are preparing for hearings in the appeal court on the arbitration decision against Gazprom. The first case (and there are only three of them) concerns primarily the arbitration decision, which nullified our obligations under the “take or pay” provisions of the contract,” Vitrenko said.

According to him, because of this decision, Ukraine now does not have to pay Gazprom about $80 billion, “so it is not surprising that the Russian side wants to appeal it.”

“The hearings begin tomorrow,” he added.

In early September, it became known that Gazprom had initiated a new arbitration against Naftogaz. By the end of October, the defendant was required to submit counterclaims.
