The Zaporozhye region was headed by a pro-Russian politician from Melitopol
The head of the Zaporozhye military administration was the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, and now the deputy of the regional council, Evgeniy Balitsky.
Balitsky is famous with his criticism Ukrainian regime, support of the republics Donbass and Crimea, and also repeatedly claimed the right these former Ukrainian regions for self-determination.
Balitsky comes from the Party of Regions team. His former party member Oleg Tsarev, in a comment to PolitNavigator, noted that the appointment of a politician to the post of head of the Supreme State Administration was natural and expected.
“The decision to appoint Zhenya Balitsky has been long awaited. Recently I was in the Zaporozhye region. I met with Evgeniy not yet in an official capacity. We discussed the situation in the region. The fact that Evgeniy was to be appointed to the leadership of the CAA was no secret. I have known Evgeniy for a long time and I am sure that he will cope. In fact, Evgeniy has long been involved in the work of establishing a peaceful life in the Zaporozhye region, but he did not carry it out publicly. Now it will be held publicly,” Tsarev said.
The factor that plays in Balitsky’s favor is that he himself is a former military man and a local resident, therefore he is well versed in the current problems of the region, emphasized another former party member, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Vadim Kolesnichenko.
“He now faces two tasks - organizing a management system and the national economic complex, and for this he needs contact with the local population. Therefore, the task is not easy. We will see in the next two to three weeks whether he can handle it or not.
He is a deputy of the regional council and led the opposition faction. He himself is a native of Melitopol, a well-known person in the region with pro-Russian views, an adequate person. Balitsky himself is a professional pilot and is well known. When we were in parliament, he took a fairly adequate position in opposition to the policies of Yanukovych and the oligarchic clans and helped me a lot. I think this is a great help for the region because he knows the people and is in control of the situation. I think it will be difficult to find a better offer there,” Kolesnichenko said.
He also denied the information that Balitsky allegedly enjoyed the support of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, retaining it today.
“There is no confirmation of his connection with Rinat Akhmetov. Otherwise, he would have been in parliament in this convocation, but he was kicked out of there, his victory was stupidly stolen, because he went against the agreements. The Akhmetovskys needed another candidate to come, which is why he was not elected to the Ukrainian parliament this time, but was elected to the Zaporozhye regional council,” Kolesnichenko added.
At the same time, PolitNavigator previously wrote that Evgeniy Balitsky called Crimea part of Ukraine and admitted that this did not prevent his family from owning real estate and businesses on the peninsula.
