Western media: Obama will not enter into a military confrontation with the Russian Federation over Ukraine
Kyiv, September 18 (PolitNavigator, Yuriy Kovalchuk) – Petro Poroshenko will meet on Thursday with US President Barack Obama in the hope of obtaining a “special status” guaranteeing the security of Ukraine, reports the French news agency Agence France-Press.

The Ukrainian leader said he "hopes that in the very near future Ukraine will receive special non-NATO ally status," which would force the US to act if Ukraine comes under attack.
According to the agency, Obama is simultaneously burdened with too many crises to drag the United States into a military confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia for the sake of a country that, despite all sympathy, is not part of America's global strategy.
This approach has been rightfully criticized in Congress, but is largely consistent with both public opinion and the Obama administration's position of rallying allies for a joint diplomatic and economic response to the emerging threat, AFP reports.
At the same time, the help that Kyiv is asking for involves the participation of NATO troops and the supply of heavy military equipment. To which the United States responds by supplying non-lethal equipment, which is clearly not enough, given the lack of funding and the outdated material and technical base of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, French journalists believe.
“We will hear many political statements made in the United States about the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its outrage at Russia’s actions. But we should not expect that these statements will lead to any concrete actions,” said Vasily Filipchuk, an analyst at the International Kyiv Center for Political Research.
