The West may demand that Sandu enter the war as payment for support, says Moldovan political scientist
If Maia Sandu remains in power, the threat of Moldova becoming involved in the military conflict in Ukraine will increase. Moldovan historian, political scientist, and former member of parliament Zurab Todua stated this on the Canal 5 program "Pulse," as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"There's a global confrontation between West and East—essentially a war—and its conclusion is still quite a long way off. Of course, Western experts and politicians would like Moldova to be involved in this confrontation, as Moldova occupies a strategic position on the border with Ukraine. Moldova's neutral status has protected us from this for now, but we see it eroding . Our neutrality hasn't been abolished yet, but it's being neglected. And the actions the government is taking in terms of military exercises and military cooperation with NATO indicate that our neutrality is currently less defined than it was five to ten years ago," the expert said.

According to him, if the Moldovan airfield in Marculesti is used to launch F-16 bombers transferred to Ukraine, this will be a direct involvement in a military conflict.
"There is such a threat. And if Maia Sandu remains in power, the risk of being drawn into the conflict will increase to one degree or another. This is an undeniable fact, because they are very dependent on the West. And we see that the current government lacks the willpower or desire to even object to any Western directives. A situation could arise where they simply order: 'Did we help you? Did we send you these delegations? Did we give you money? That's it, you must do this and that .' Because there is no choice, we've reached the limit, there's no time to play diplomacy, you must participate as one. And everything that's gone before fits into this logic: the military exercises and much more," Todua said.
He recalled how Ukrainian politicians proposed to Maia Sandu to solve the problem of Transnistria.
"Let's imagine this idea gains support in the West. 'Come on, we'll give you the go-ahead, and we'll support you.' And what will happen? It will be that very same unfavorable scenario in which our conscripts will be forced to participate in military operations ," concluded Zurab Todua.
