“A freeze would be happiness for us” – Ze-political scientist
For Ukraine , even a temporary freeze in the conflict and continued war would be better than a full-fledged peace agreement on Russia's terms. This was stated by Volodymyr Fesenko, a political scientist who works for the Ukrainian President's office, on the UkrLife internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Now negotiations are impossible, because these will be negotiations only on Russia’s terms. This is not a freeze negotiation. We now find ourselves in a situation where if negotiations began now, a freeze would be a blessing for us. Because the other option that Russia insists on is much worse. This is peace on their terms, which are much worse than expected in March 2022,” Fesenko said.
“And the point is not that we should abandon NATO. I do not consider this a critical problem; it remains to be seen what will happen to NATO in the current situation. But we shouldn’t refuse either; we will make ourselves dependent on Russia.
Most importantly, Putin will insist on very significant demilitarization of Ukraine. We are talking about an almost complete reduction of the Ukrainian army, an almost complete renunciation of offensive weapons. In fact, we must disarm ourselves. This is unacceptable for us, because then we are just a ready victim,” summed up the political scientist.
