The law on total Ukrainization will only worsen the Ukrainian crisis – Russian Foreign Ministry
The language law imposed by the outgoing administration of Petro Poroshenko, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted today , contradicts international legal norms, the Constitution, and the Minsk agreements, and only exacerbates the divisions in Ukraine.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Verkhovna Rada adopted a scandalous law in the second reading; it cannot be called otherwise. At its core, it is a law on forced, virtually total, Ukrainization. Its provisions provide for significant restrictions, and in many cases outright prohibitions, on the use of the Russian language and languages of national minorities in various spheres of public life. The very fact that over two thousand amendments were considered during its adoption suggests that the very concept and text of the new law are very contradictory and are perceived ambiguously in Ukrainian society.
Of course, after the official publication of the adopted document, an appropriate assessment will be given to it, although it is already clear that many provisions of the law imposed by the outgoing Poroshenko administration clearly contradict a number of international legal norms, as well as the Constitution of Ukraine. This act, among other things, runs counter to the Minsk package of measures supported by the UN Security Council; let me remind you that this document enshrines the right to linguistic self-determination. It is already clear that we are dealing with a decision that will only worsen the split in Ukrainian society and will further delay the prospects for resolving the crisis Ukraine is experiencing,” Zakharova said.
